Alaska Hasselt
History
In Hasselt, he starts a private limited company named Bofibel, specialising in bookkeeping, fiscal law and taxes. Four colleagues join him. Godelieve Cordy is one of the very first co-workers. More than 30 years later, she still advises Bofibel’s clients, only now in the capacity of Senior Advisor personal income taxes.
At the end of the 70s, the economic outlook turns gloomy in Belgium. Then Prime Minister Martens speaks the historic words: “We’re not out of the woods yet”.
Nevertheless, thanks to Maurice Mesotten’s prudent approach and the use of personal funds, the company shows steady growth. Ten years down the line (1989), this strategy of well thought out investments translates into a new office building and additional manpower. Another two decades later the company is managed by four partners and employs 15 people, distributed over two adjacent buildings at the address Oude Luikerbaan.
From the mechanical card punching machine via mini-computers to today’s high-quality IT equipment…Maurice Mesotten has witnessed a veritable (r)evolution over a relatively short period of time. But not only did he see the pre-conditions of the trade change dramatically. Nowadays the services on offer entail much more than mere bookkeeping advice. In this year 2009, a client’s situation often requires thorough, specialist - and sometimes international – knowledge and approach.
From this point of view, joining Alaska Group (13 February 2009) can be seen as the ultimate step in the more than 30-year history of Bofibel. Participation in this unique cooperation stands for keeping our own strength and simultaneously building on the strength of others. The result: an all-in and all-round service package for our clients.
